Haven’t Touched the Camera since Jamrock

I have a confession to make.

I bought a Sony PSP and the Loco Roco game.

sigh

Good think my daughter is coming tomorrow… it’ll take my mind off my latest obsession.

No Work Today…

… it wasn’t always so!
the company would pay, for working night and day.

But all that’s left is a desk dark and lonely
No to-do due for the end of business day!

(sung to the tune of Hermit Herman’s ‘No Milk Today’)

Looks like the Dubai project is over this time, at least for me… and I don’t have anything else to do just now. It also turns out I still have 16 days of vacation time to spend somehow in December. Funny how sometimes it all comes together.

Cinco de Mayo!

The question was popped, the rings are on order and the date is set.

First Picture Ever

The Princess and I are getting married on the 5th of May 2007 in Albi, France. I am already very relieved to know that the Amexican beer industry will do its very best each year to remind me of our anniversary in time to avoid the usual hubby oh-oh moment.

Near Infrared Coconut Tree

It was overcast all the time in Montego Bay. Not photographically interesting… just thick gray clouds with little definition.

Near Infra Red Coconut

I remembered reading somewhere that near infrared is more sensitive to moisture content, and that the atmosphere is more transparent when dry, leading to increased density on clouds… so I tried it. Worked pretty well, I think.

Les Tribulations d’un Flash en Jamaique

Blogged by Mathieu as Diary — Mathieu Sat 25 Nov 2006 10:50

I dunno why I hated flash for so long… well, I do know, I just never had a good flash, plus it’s so much easier to get the right result with a digital camera than it was in the film days. I dunno how those guys did it… probably carried a slide rule around or something.

Anyhow, I finally got a picture of the inside of the cabin with a well-exposed view of the sky outside the window… something I’ve been dreaming about for years. (I got upgraded four times in as many flights to and back from the wedding and from Jamrock, it was time to celebrate) It looks a little staged, almost studio-shot, but I didn’t see that on the camera. Perhaps a little colour filtering of the flash’s light might have helped…

Jamaican Cowboy

As for the guitar hero, his name is Cowboy. He was singing the Reggae standards with skill and gusto in an underground bar with very dim light and a dark ceiling. Kinda limited my options on how to light him up. Again, you can’t pretend the flash wasn’t there, but there was no way I would have gotten the shot without it.

Oh, and of course, that was shot at ISO 1600 because the D70s does NOT indicate ISO anywhere without you pressing a button (if you remember to push that button to check, you usually remember that you need to set it back to 200) and because I’m not smart enough to set it back by myself. In the end, that may be the one feature that makes me switch to a D200.

In case you’re wondering, yes, that is an autograph by Jimmy Cliff on his guitar.
