Setup.exe for Linux

Blogged by Mathieu as Pointers,Reactions — Mathieu Sun 28 Jan 2007 14:10

There are some bright, bright people working for the Linux cause…

You can now download an installation executable (yup, setup.exe or install.exe, just like for installing Winzip or Yahoo Messenger), double click on it, reboot and presto, you can choose Windows or Debian at every boot.

Where can you find this wonder? Why, at goodbye-microsoft.com, of course.

It is intended more as a helpful tool for Debian installers than anything else, but there is an Ubuntu version coming soon. With that one, there will be no repartioning of your drive and so no risk of data loss… there will be no reason not to try Linux, then.

Croissant au Beurre

I’ve been nervous about this recipe, because it is just about the hardest thing a baker can make, basically a risen pate feuilletee with horror stories of the butter breaking thru the layers, et cetera.

Croissant au Beurre

Wasn’t perfect (I over-kneaded the dough and couldn’t get it nice and thin for smaller, perfectly shaped croissants) but they looked good none the less, and they tasted perfect. Crunchy, flaky, light crust and soft, richly buttery and fluffy/silky interior. I’m very happy with them and will finish them off for breakfast tomorrow morning, as a great start to the weekend… next time, I’ll make some pains au chocolat, too.

The Anti-EULA

Tired of the ridiculous “agreements” you are supposedly entering into with various legal or not so legal entities every time you open a package, install software or buy a product? Well, now you can fight back.

I have added a variant of this in the footer of this blog. Expect my email sig to change as well.

Very Busy

Blogged by Mathieu as Diary — Mathieu Thu 25 Jan 2007 10:35

Work is much busier than normal, wedding prep in full swing, about the only hobby I have time for right now is baking. Made some french Brioche yesterday, had some, toasted, for breakfast today.

Your regular schedule of mismatched posts will return shortly, I hope.

Oh, probably traveling to LA next week, and to Dubai sometime in early Feb.

Ta for now!
