Hike: Wanaque Ridge and Ramapo Lake

The Princess and I went on a four hour hike on Sunday in the hills around Wanaque Ridge and Ramapo Lake. Very nice, challenging without being a killer, gorgeous views on the ridge and the weather was perfect, sunny but not too warm, light breeze.

We saw a deer, a mess of chipmunks and a few Turkey Vultures.

Took a wrong turn on Cannonball Trail, but soon spotted the sun wasn’t in the right place, sat down with the GPS and Palm which found us a road to follow down to the lake, and soon we were back on the right track. The purple squiggle is my best guess of that detour.

Next time I’ll try to log our GPS position.

Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother

Little Brother I’ve always liked Cory Doctorow, the blogger, podcaster and activist a little more than I did his fiction. More of a reflection on the former, rather than on his Science Fiction.

Well, that’s not a problem anymore.

Little Brother is not only his best work as fiction goes, it’s also his most important work as an activist, happily rolled into one. It was entertaining, it was educating, eye-opening and best of all, it rang true… like I could google anything in it and it would all come up with 16 million hits.

Cory, you rock.

By the way, the book is available under CC-license at his website, so don’t take my word for it: download a copy, start reading, and if you like it enough (and can’t stand reading on your PC or don’t have an eBook reader) buy a physical copy or three for you and any smart teens or pre-teens you care about.
